I've got a '68 E-Type roadster (series 1.5, 2 Strombergs) with a balky clutch. Assuming adjustment won't cut it, I'll likely have to replace the clutch after 18 years and 20K miles.

I understand we'll need to drop the motor and clutch/housing to replace clutch. Wouldn't this be a good time to: freshen the motor; re-spray the inside bonnet/subframe/rails/firewall/replace engine mounts?

Any suggestions as to what repairs/replacements to undertake on the engine?

Time to put in a 5-speed?
Switch to triple SU carbs and new manifold?
Triple Webers for more power?

Car is 1st/2nd in concours Driven class; inside bonnet respray will move it to C class.

All advice/opinions welcome and appreciated.
