any idea if chrome wheels where factory option on XK8s or if that's considered dealer option / aftermarket ? I deducted with the blessing of our chief judge but the guy insisted it was a factory option.

Also, I was always under the impression that XK8s had green badges on the wheels, XKRs red and XJR gray. Today at our concours, I saw 1 XK8 with red and another one with grey background badges on the wheels...

I seem to remember reading that early buyers of these cars were confused that the growler badges didn't seem to be color coordinated with the car. For example a BRG car might have had red badges because of its place on the ladder. So Jaguar discontinued the model/badge color relationship and presumably put a color that coordinated best with the scheme of the car! You can buy what ever color badges you want for your wheels from the dealer's parts counter.

According to the 1998 Jaguar brochure, chrome wheels were an option on the XK8, and are illustrated on page 54 and listed on page 56.

However, what I have been observing on these later model cars is that as a model enters a new model year, things that were optional one year become standard in a later year. It seems to be an easy way to make the cars seem "fresher" without any real change.
