I'm restoring the windshield area on my car and I have questions regarding the A post chrome. I know the A post chrome should be installed under the rubber windshield seal along its forward edge, but how do you keep it from
popping out while in the process of installing the rivets at the
rear? Does the bottom area need to be glued down? If so, which adhesive works best? Also the bottom chrome windshield strip has a small hole at
each end where it meets the lower post chrome. Does this have
something to do with fastening the bottom of the A post chrome?
Series 1 XKE OTS 1967. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hello,
I have attached some photos of the A post installation. I used
clear silicone bathroom sealer as an adhesive and several clamps
to hold it in place for a week. This approach seems to work.
1) Ensure the bottom of the A post is shaped correctly.
2) Apply a generous amount of silicone to the bottom of the a post.
3) Install the A post under the rubber windshield strip and hold it while someone else installs the upper and lower rivet. (I used a small bent screwdriver to assist with getting the rubber windshield seal over the A post)
4) Install a clamp or two until the silicone cures.
5) Use plenty of tape, and don’t worry about the silicone on your paint or chrome. Its easily removed with silicone spray after your clamps are installed. Hope this works for you. I have photos if you would like to see.
