Have a problem with a 1990 XJ6 4.0 where the ignition/charging warning lamp fails to extinguish once the engine has started up.

The voltage across the battery reads 14.5 Volts and loading it with heated rear window, light and blower doesn't cause it to drop at all. A voltmeter on the dash also reads 14.5 Volts so it seems to be charging o.k.

It's just that the lamp stays on.

Any ideas?
