Since everything is dying, I would think a bad ground. Not sure about the electronics in the LEDs so can't comment there. I would take a look at all of your major ground points and cables. Insulated cables can be rotten inside the having less cable area to carry the current required so they will work ok until you have an enough of a load then the resistance goes up causing you to have an effective voltage drop to all of your components.
