I have a '67 E-Type that I recently purchased from a friend in Georgia who had the car for 24 years. He completely restored the car several years ago, but I think cut a few corners with paint. The paint looks okay, except for the bonnet.... The color is called Primrose yellow... I'm having the bonnet stripped and re-painged; possibly the entire car repainted...

Can anyone recommend the best paint to use, -or direct me to a resource that I can get color information to provide the paint shop?

thanks for your assistance.

William,
Look at the website www.Classicjaguar.com/paintcodes.html and you will see that color Jag 104 also has a Glasurit # 7425 number. Your paint shop should be able to find it under that number.
I am in the process of repainting my car and had a bit of a go-around with my painter about Opalescent Dark Green and this forum was timely in that I found the Glasurit number which is exactly the color of my car. The paint shop used the "New RM #" to get the correct paint color.

Thanks to Simon for suggesting the paint color website or I think I would still be having a go with the painter.

Hi William,

I talked with the Shop who repainted my door & he confirmed that it was Glasurit Jag-104 although he did add that since the paint on my car had faded (last painted in 1987!) the solution was somewhat modified. So it does exist & all I can suggest is you try some other suppliers.

Hello Simon; I've been trying to get primrose yellow touch up a 70 2+2. I tried a supplier for BASF and they said there is no such code as JAG 104 for Glasurit, he said the code is FDB. I wonder if you have any extra I would be happy to buy a small ammount from you. regards Bill Jaguar affectionado and etc.

I would highly recommend Glasurit. Several years ago, I had the '72 E-type I owned repainted with Glasurit in Pale Primrose. The results were excellent. If you look in the gallery on this website, you should find some "before and after" pictures of my car, several after I hit a deer, and a few more of the car during restoration and later, showing the color. The Glasurit Pale Primrose is a very pleasing color, very original, not the harsher yellow of some other companies.

The only caveat is, it must be applied by someone certified to use Glasurit. The results are excellent, but it must be done properly.

I have an OTS Series 2 in Primrose Yellow (a beautifull creamy yellow (in my opinion!).Last year I had the right hand door re-painted with BASF Glasurit JAG-104 & it was a perfect match. Additional info can be sourced from WWW.Classicjaguar.com/paintcodes.html, WWW.terrysjag.com/paint.html or I think the XKEdata web site. They provide, I am afraid, some conflicting info but for me the BASf Glasurit matched perfectly.

I have often heard, and believe to be true, that it is best to let your bodyshop use the paints they are most comfortable and most familiar with using.

Do your research and I think most of what you discover will be opinion, as opposed to fact. Personally, I would guess that the major brands, PPG, DuPont, etc, are all pretty good. My car was painted with PPG products and I am quite pleased with the results.
