My Auxilliary fan, when shorted out works. When connected to the temp sensor on the water pump; however, it does not work, leading to the conclusion that the switch needs to be replaced. Does anyone know the part number of the switch and where to buy it? I suppose antifreeze would come out when replacing the switch. When adding back the antifreeze are there any tricks to filling completely and avoiding air locks and overheating? Another thought I had was to leave the aux fan shorted out and let it run all the time. I tried this, but the fan didn't seem to shut off(not connected to the sensor switch now) after shutting the ignition off. Anyone have any experience going this route,i.e., leaving the aux fan hot wired so that it is always on?
Thanks!

I was just referring to the price for the easy to install kit mentioned by Andy above. I little joke I guess.

I try to resist getting involved in these types of topics BUT, it is a bad idea to have the fan run continually, it is designed only to work when the engine needs it which is in the region of 20% of the time. Additionally in very hot conditions it comes on after engine shutdown to reduce the build up of heat soak. The car should not run hot if everything else is functioning properly! That being said, one design fault with the V12 was having the temperature sender in the right bank where the main cooling fan is. If the electric fan doesn't work or the left thermostat malfunctions it will not show on the gauge until it is too late. We have fitted many additional gauges to the left side manifold Jaguar affectionado and etc.

No, the engine is not running hot--I just thought it would be easier to have the aux fan wired into the ignition switch rather than have to go through the trouble of replacing the coolant temp sensing switch in the water pump housing. Again, if I needed to replace that switch, where is best place to purchase it?
Thanks!

To make the fan run whenever the key is "On" unplug the blue diode pack (left fenderwell) and run a jumper wire from the socket with the two light green wires to the one with the green/brown wire. The fan relay will now be energized whenever the key is on and the thermo switch and compressor tie-in are now bypassed

I suspect the fan motor will wear out a bit faster :-)

Is the engine running hot? If so, this is no way to fix it

If you don't have to keep it original, flexalite has an after market temperature controller i have used on vehicles for our business. You bolt it down, after making sure you have a good ground connection, supply fused 12v to one side of the fan, the other fan terminal goes to a terminal on the controller. there is a thin copper tube which is inserted into the upper radiator hose. you turn a potentiometer to make the fan come on as soon as you reach slightly higher than normal operating temp. there are terminals for a/c relay (also available from flexalite) and a manual override switch.

all hardware comes with the controller, it took about 20 minutes to install, never had problem with one of these. The whole thing cost $55. including the a/c relay.

Doug-
I just connceted the two wires that I took off the sensor switch on the water pump and jumbered them together. Also, where do you suggest purchasing a new coolant sensor switch?

Off topic-
What brand cap, rotor, wires, plugs would you recommend for my spring tune-up? I have the Lucas cap now. Many have mentioned that I should do a tune-up to try and eliminate my over-rich condition.

Thanks

You can't be sure the switch needs replacing unless you test it when the coolant temperature is over 200?? or so.

The best way to fill the cooling system is to elevate the front of the car several inches and then elevate the left side a few inches beyond that. Remove the little bleeder plug at the top of the left side radiator tank. Fill system until a steady flow is coming out of the bleeder.

Some guys wire the fan for constant operation. Not required, IMHO. How are you shorting the circuit? I'm sure there's a way to do it that doesn't result in a non-stop fan
