I based my comments on an earlier version of "Current" on the posting of proposed amendments in the AGM section of the site. This showed "the secretary must be a member of the board of directors." after the sentence requiring the president and vice-president to be members of the board of directors. The removal of that sentence from the "Current" section of the proposed amendment obviously eliminates my concern. Thanks. John

All,

Yes, ANY member (in good standing) of JCNA can be appointed to the position of Secretary by the president, and approved by the Board of Directors, and automatically becomes a member of the Board of Directors during such period of service.

I don't understand why there is even a discussion about this topic. The secretary does not have to be a regional director to be appointed secretary. If you do not think I am doing a good enough job and want to apply for the position, contact either the President or your regional director.

ARTICLE V. OFFICERS: ELECTION AND APPOINTMENTS
Section 1. Officers: The officers of JCNA shall be the president, vice-president, and treasurer. The president and vice-president must be elected members of the board of directors. The secretary must be a member in good standing of JCNA, and serve at the discretion of the board of directors, but not to exceed two years without review, with approval of a two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors, and shall be member of the board of directors during such service. (2010 AGM)

Art,
In accordance with the JCNA By-laws -(Article V. Officers, Election, and Appointments; Section 1. Officers) - "The secretary must be a member in good standing of JCNA, and serve at the discretion of the board of directors, but not *** Board of Directors, and shall be member of the board of directors during such servece. " (2010 AGM). The changes made in this Section at the 2010 AGM was to delete the preceding sentence :"The secretary must be a member of the board of directors".
It would therefore appear to me that - ANY member (in good standing) of JCNA can now be appointed and approved by the Board of Directors -as Secretary, and automatically becomes a member of the Board of Directors during such period of service.
