Yep, I just purchased a 1957 Mk 1 2.4. It needs work. Are there any members out there that have restored a 2.4? How 'bout a 3.4? I need a co-dependant for this new problem...

Looking for Allen Bernstein, Did you ever get your 2.4L MK 1 restored?

If anyone else has a 2.4L MK 1 with a correct engine bay, I would appreciate a photo.

I had about a half dozen MK 1 cars over the past 30 years.Great runners
and not too bad looking either.I saved quite a few spares over the years.
The strangest one of all was the 2.8 litre one.It had a grille like you
would find on the XK 140.Very thick round bars, but definetely the original
one.It was white and I had it for years.I believe that Old Bill(local guy)
ended up with it.He loved the ponies so who knows what ever became of it.
I have never heard of another one or seen any literature regarding it's
existance.

Dear David,
I recently restored a 56 Mark 1 2.4L. Yes its expensive if done correctly but I really believe it to be one of the most beautiful Jagaurs ever made. It has an incredibly smooth ride yet quite steady, straight, and true although a bit twitchy at high speed. It goes exactly where its pointed and responds instantly. Feels about as peppy as a MG-B with its 2.4L short-stroke six and will run all day easily at 70MPH. I recently drove it to the British Invasion in Stowe Vermont and took it on backroads over the green mointains in Vermont. It loves roads like that and feels like a goat going over those hills effortlessly even with only 112 horse power. Let me know if you have questions.

I have several Mk1's and drive one to most events, even race it when I have time. The Mk1 is my favorite car and I have several models of Jaguars. The Mk1 does have several spots that rust and if the jack points are rusted then there is no sense in restoring the car. Find one that has a better body. I have one left with a good body if your interested and I could talk all day long about the Mk1. If you would like to talk you can call me at 214 533-6290. I als have good wood and some good interior pieces, including seats. Yesterday I picked up another Mk1 that was just painted and has a new interior kit with it.

$600 in 1971 - drove it until 1977, put it storage because I was moving overseas, storage site went out of business, father drove it to his home and parked in driveway on jackstands, I didn't come back from overseas until 1999, put it back it storage but damage was already done.

I'm in New Freedom, PA. I trailered this car from Arkansas after Christmas. Having done that, I beginning to think it may have been a mistake. There's probably nothing on the car that's salvageable. However, I will take some pictures for you when I finish my current business trip (end of Jan).

My opinion is: I wouldn't even Start if it's so bad, because you'll just get tired after discovering it's a time and money pit, not to mention a complete re-manufacture of a rotted car, and I can already see the Ad: "For Sale 1959 MK-1 3.4 ongoing restoration project; thousands $$$$$ invested, don't have the time to complete, lost interest....". Have you seen your share of those Ads ? Instead, rescue the parts that are good and sell them to those who need them for their running cars. Having said that, if you have the money, go for it all the way and please post before-and-after pictures for us to enjoy.

I have a 1959 Mk 1 3.4 that needs serious restoration. It sat outdoors for 20+ years. You can imagine what it looks like - rocker panels completely rusted out, anything that should move is frozen with rust, lamination on wood has peeled off, carpet is rotted, headliner falling out, steering wheel disintegrated, all rubber rotted, etc. I'm not sure where to even start.
