And that's why you never have to change the oil on an E-Type. You just keep adding!! LOL
That aside, the worst culprit seems to be the rear crank seal. Using a modern seal (which requires machining the crank) has reportedly had mixed results. After much checking and tightening I no longer seem to have a noticable drip from the engine after replacing the gaskets 3 years ago. I did add some stop leak to help the seals which were not recently replaced. The gearbox is another matter where I still have a constant drip, which I'm trying to figure out
