Our 1990 XJ-S convertible has a key fob with a cat emblem on the button that is pushed to lock and unlock the doors. This thing is erratic at best about locking or unlocking the car. A problem I have is after the battery runs down, and gets boosted, the car chirps and the lights flash. I really have to play with button on the fob to get it to stop chirping. Are there any tricks to making this an easier process?
Is this a factory installed alarm system on these cars?

Thank you so much for the quick responses! This makes sense, as it turns out, because that is exactly how I get the thing to stop chirping! And all this time I thought it had a problem! Haha
And thanks for looking into the other subject.

Hi, Keith,

The action of your security system is a normal thing for your 1990. If the battery dies or is disconnected the security remotes are lost. The chirp and flashing sidelights is what happens. that signals it is now looking for the remote(s) to reprogram. The system needs to see 5 remote activations to fully program. That means one remote would have to be pressed 5 times, or some other combination of remotes totaling 5. For example, if two remotes are available, one could be pressed twice and the other pressed three times, total of five.

That model year did not come from the factory with the security system, they had to be installed at the dealer.

I'll research the other thing in the coming days.

Cheers,
