We just returned from our Christmas trip from Dallas, TX to Casper, WY. It was a lovely trip except for the numerous unscheduled stops we had to make to allow my 2004 XJ8 to reset from the above two messages. The problems started when about 200 miles into the trip the ASF (Air Suspension Fault) light came on. Car immediately became very bumpy. I pulled off the road, turned off the car and it reset in about 5 minutes. The temperature was 31 degrees F. As we continued on the trip, the car continued to have problems holding the air in the shocks. As the temperature warmed up above freezing the problem cleared itself. I talked to my mechanic and he told me as long as the car was handling okay to keep driving. We arrived in Casper and parked the car.
Three days later on the return trip the problem started almost immediately. Temperatures were below freezing. As the night continued the interval between ASF's became shorter and the time to reset became longer. At one point I could only drive 20 miles before I got another ASF and it took 45 minutes for the car to reset. Temperatures ranged from 39-17 degrees F. The trip of 1080 miles which should have taken 16-17 hours took 22 hours. My husband and I were exhausted from the anxiety caused by this. As soon as the temperatures warmed above freezing the problem disappeared.
Last year about this time I blew the air shock on the front passenger side and had a $1000 repair job. I know from reading the forum that this is a frequent problem with these cars. Not only is this inconvenient, it is also very dangerous. At the point the VTL (Vehicle Too Low)message comes on the car is very hard to steer. I know many people up north have these cars. Do you just park them in the winter? What will fix this for good? I no longer trust my dealer to fix it. This is my 3rd Jaguar and I never had this problem with my 1998 XJ8L or 2001 XJ8L. Temperatures below freezing are not uncommon in Dallas--I just don't want to go through this frustration any more.
Have there been any recalls for this problem? Seems like a serious design flaw Jaguar should be required to fix. Is there any way to pull the CATS suspension and replace with struts. Seems like my other cars had better handling and no roll when cornering.

The Air Suspension Fault....Vehicle Too Low message appeared. The car has automatically lowered itself on all 4 tires. Does anyone know what this means?
