I recently acquired a beautiful 1990 XJS convertable and on the first hot day, tried to get the airconditioning working to no avail. I discovered that both the wire to the condenser and the ground had been disconnected, once connected it works fine. My question is twofold, 1, The car came from California why would someone disconnect the AC and 2, where should the ground wire be attached, there are a number of alternatives and I would like it to be correct?

Cheers

People often disconnect the Compressor in the winter so that it does nor run when the heater is on, The ground wire goes to the threaded hole on the compressor top front flange. Jaguar affectionado and etc.
