Howdy! We have a 1999 Jaguar Vanden Plas. At 48,000 miles the dealer put in a new rack, because it was making a little noise, and the warranty was about to run out. Now it has 90,000 miles, and as I was backing around to the gas pump a couple weeks ago, the power steering quit working. I took it to the nearest Jag dealer (200 miles away) and the technician said he took off a hose and the pump was still pumping power steering fluid, so it would have to be the rack. A new rack is like $1100 and 4 hours for installation. What do you think? Does it sound like a new rack is what it needs, or is the technician just guessing?

Also, the windshield wipers are very sporadic. They will sometimes stop in the middle of the wipe....and other times they just keep going even when you turn the switch off, or even turn the car off and take the key out. I was told it was probably one of the two relays in the front left corner under the hood....so I replaced both of them....but no improvement. The Jag dealer's technician said that it is a module that costs somethng like $300 and a couple hours for installation. Does that sound reasonable too?

At 72,000, the timing chain tensioner broke, so we rebuilt the top half of the engine. We have put in 3 new water pumps in thelife of the car. We are getting tired of the constant repairs....so even though we love the car....we are ready to sell it and go back to a Toyota or Lexus. Any thoughts and advice will be appreciated.
