Okay, so the conclusion, after much testing and talking to a clued jag mechanic is that I've got a burned exhaust valve. Fun. The only mechanic anywhere near here (still two hours away) wants to do whole lot of work on the engine in addition to replacing the valve.

How much work really needs to be done when doing this kind of repair? If things don't actually need to be resurface and sent out to a machine shop, I'd be happy to do the work myself, and it would save me a miserable weekend riding a bus back.

Also, where can I get parts and seals? Just order through the dealer, or can I avoid giving these twits (who told me it was just fouled plugs) any money?

Ouch!, sorry to hear about the Valve. I have just purchased a 92 Sovereign that had an exhaust valve replaced prior to my purchase. I have the in house invoice (Jaguar Dealer) for the repair, and it's not pretty.

Anyway I wanted to throw out the question, why does this happed to the AJ engines?, is this a cronic problem, and is there a way to stop it?.
