Is the 1997 XJ6L considered a series 2 or 3? Or is it not considered either. When I see parts referenced, they mention series 2 and 3 but the series 3 seems to end in 1992.

If your question has a typographical error, and your car is a 1977 xj6L, then it is a Series II (made from late 1973 for the '74 model year, to mid-1979). The Series III cars entered production in 1979 and ended at the end of 1992. If your car really is a 1997, then it is a "Series V" (also known as X300).
