I own a 1996 xj6 and I have my first running problem. I just finished washing the car I also washed off the valve cover,didn't soak the engine Ijust rinsed it. I took the car to the store (10 minute ride) Then I went to go for a long road trip, when I got out of the neighborhood the car would not go over 2500 rpm it almost sounded like it was starving for fuel. I took he coils out figuring it may have some water in the plug tubes but found none, I also unpluged almost every connector and found no water. The car also starts to backfire when throttle is wide open, when at full throttle the engine revs to 2500-2700 then it it drops to 700 then back to 2500-2700 then back to 700 ect... no check engine light has come on yet. If anyone has heard of this problem, please let me know
