I own a sweet little 95 XJS with 34K miles. It just got its 5th A/C evaporator. These things are failing at the elbows. Thankfully, all have been replaced under warranties, but if this one lasts over a year, the next one will be on me. Momentum Jaguar in Houston has replaced all of them, claims it is a design defect, and that there is no known cure. Has anybody experienced this, and what options are available to remedy? This job involves tearing out the dash and runs over $2500.

1995 XJS Air Conditioner Evaporator Failures
The evaporators rarely give problems BUT, they are often damaged, The fiitings which go through the bulkhead are tricky to tighten and it taked two people with the correct tools. If anyone tries to tighten them nornally it will crack the unit where the neck connects on the inside, meaning replacing the unit, it sounds like this has happened here! Jaguar affectionado and etc.
Thanks for the response. Glad to hear this isn't a chronic problem with this model/year. I hope you are right about it being an installation problem. I got to look at the most recent failed part. Hard to tell for sure, but it looks like the return bends on the non-soldered end of the evaporator have been leaking. I think the same technician has replaced most/all of the evaporators, so maybe it is how he is installing them. If it happens again, maybe I should try a different dealer! Jag Lover
