I am posting for my neighbor. He has a 1994 XJS.
He is trying to replace the rear brake pads and we are having a heck of a time. The pads just appear to be too thick to fit both of them in there -- they are about 5/8" thick.
Does anyone have the part number for the rear brake pads?

We did get the piston all the way back in, but both the inner and outer pads are both about that thick.
We have tried installing them in either order, but there is a bracket on the back of the rear pad that will not allow us to get the pad slid in.
UGH...
He is going to check with a Jag shop on Monday to see if he can check out a set of new pads that they have to verify that he has the right parts.

Has he pushed the pistons back so the new ones will enter, my set of used rears weasure 9/16 ths, best to open the bleed valves and push out the dirty old fluid as the pistons are retracted. Should be no problem,

as my car is older model possibly you have the newer style brakes, or are they still inboard. Another point is for sure to open the bleeders to push in the pistons, as debris pushed back in can foul the 1,500 $ abs pump.
Even with the older systems with no abs pump, the fluid should be pushed out of the bleeder screw as pushing it back to the reservoir can sometimes overflow the reservoir, and leak fluid onto paint and remove paint from that uunder master / reservoir area. That is nasty Good luck.
