I don't think it's goofy at all, because I installed one in my Series 3. The S3 obviously has a different throttle setup than yours, since it has a bell crank in the middle of the V to actuate all 4 carbs together. It also has a throttle cable to turn it and a another place for a throttle cable for use in right hand drive cars. That second cable location was where I attached the cable from my cruise control, so the system looks like it belongs there.
