'01 rear lower shock bushing

Have a rattle noise that I have narrowed down to what I beleive is the interface between the lower end of rear shock absorber and it mounting. Anyone else have experienced this?... anyone know if common problem?... is bushing replacement reasonably straightforword?... can bushing be replaced without removing shock?

That is basically what it is. However, you need a receiver ring to accept the bushing and hold the shock housing.

Do I assume correctly... that the tool is basically a ring to allow pushing on the bushing assembly's outside housing while not damaging the grease seals...? Thanks.

Part number is CCC-6782. Not sure of a factory tool to change them. I fabricated my own tool. If unsure, take it to a shop that knows how to change them. Get factory parts as the labor far exceeds the parts cost.

This is a common noise on cars with 50,000+ miles. The bushing is a metal on metal spherical bushing sealed with grease boots on either side. It can be changed in the car without removing the shock but requires a special tool so as to not damage the grease boots. Pressing the new one in by the center will destroy it as it will stretch the center and you will be right where you are now. I don't think the tool is a readily available tool as I had to make one. The bushing is available for the rear only. The front is the same design but not available separately.
