Guide to JCNA Club Rallying & Program Rules
Chapter 11 - JCNA Rally Program Rules
INTENT: The intent of the JCNA Rally Program is to introduce members and their families to another safe form of motor sport that they can actively participate in and enjoy with any model of Jaguar automobile.
The Rally Program complements the existing Concours Program, and driving events organised by individual clubs.
1. TYPE OF RALLY: Only the Time Speed Distance (or TSD) Rally will qualify for recognition under JCNA rules. Qualifying rallies will involve basic mathematical and intermediate map reading skills. It shall not be the Rallymaster' s intent to intentionally "lose" rally teams.
2. SANCTIONING: Only Two TSD rallies per club per year will be sanctioned. One extra regional rally will be allowed PER REGION each year as in the concours program.
REQUESTS FOR SANCTIONED RALLY DATES MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE JCNA EVENTS SANCTION COORDINATOR NO LATER THAN THREE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT. This is to avoid scheduling conflicts with other clubs.
To be declared valid, results of your JCNA rally must be reported to our office within 20 days of the event, and be accompanied by copies of the General Instructions & Route Instructions.
3. REQUIRED MINIMUMS & MAXIMUMS:
Minimum rally distance: 50 miles
Minimum rally elapsed time: 2 hours (excluding breaks). Minimum timed legs: 3
Minimum odometer check distance: 10 miles
Minimum of two persons per car: Driver & navigator
(NO SOLO DRIVERS PERMITTED)4. CLASSES: Initially, there will be a single, "Open" class. JCNA reserves the right to create other classes which may be recommended by the Rally Committee.
5. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: As written must include at least all the items mentioned in Chapter 2 of this publication. The Rallymaster must specifically state in writing any particular general instruction unique to the rally at hand, or one which conflicts with the items or intent of the items mentioned in Chapter 2. The Definitions of rally terms contained in Chapter 2 MUST be used and presented in writing as part of the general instructions. Terms developed by the Rallymaster which do not appear in Chapter 2 must be clearly defined in the Gls.
6. ROUTE INSTRUCTIONS: When written must use terms as defined in Chapter 2. Rallymasters are permitted to use terminology of their own for items not defined in Chapter 2. However, such terms MUST be defined in the GIs.
7. OFFICIAL MILEAGES: Must be given at least to the 0.1 (1/10th) mile, and preferably to the 0.01 (1/100th) of a mile.
8. STARTING PROCEDURE: Rally cars will leave the start at one-minute (1:00) intervals.
- EXAMPLE:
- Car #1 starts at 10:01
Car #5 starts at 10:059. CHECKPOINTS: Open checkpoints which require rally cars to stop must be located on the right hand side of the rally route. This is for purposes of safety.
10. EQUIPMENT: Any equipment is permitted except the following which are SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED:
- Aftermarket Electronic and Electro-Mechanical and Mechanical Rally Odometers
- Held or Portable Electronic Computers
- Aftermarket Electronic On-Board Trip Computers (original Jaguar on-board trip computers in the models they were designed for are OK)
11. POINTS DISTRIBUTION: At each JCNA sanctioned rally, points will be awarded to Drivers and Navigators who compete in Jaguar automobiles as follows:
Position Driver Navigator 1st Place 20 pts 20 pts2nd Place 15 pts 15 pts3rd Place 12 pts 12 pts4th Place 10 pts 10 pts5th Place 8 pts 8 pts6th Place 6 pts 6 pts7th Place 4 pts 4 pts8th Place 3 pts 3 pts9th Place 2 pts 2 pts10th Place 1 pt 1 ptThis permits mixing of teams of drivers and navigators from event to event.
No points will be awarded to competitors driving cars other than Jaguars or Jaguar/Daimler derivatives.
12. TIMING: Rallymaster has the option of timing at start, and at checkpoints to EITHER the nearest second or to the nearest 0.01 minute (eg: 30 seconds = 0.50 minute). Timepieces must be synchronized with WWV and set to the appropriate local time.
13. ROUTE SELECTION: Sump-busting, destructive roads will not be used. As per Chapter 2, General Instructions, unpaved roads will not be used UNLESS the Rallymaster determines that judicious use of good dirt or other unpaved roads is suitable in limited amounts. A STATEMENT MUST APPEAR IN THE GIs TO THE EFFECT THAT SOME DIRT ROADS WILL BE USED.
14. JOINT EVENTS: Clubs can collaborate on staging joint rallies as long as the section for which each club is responsible meets all the mandatory minimum requirements above.
15. ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Rally Champions will be determined on the basis of the use of event scores in JCNA events by the best three finishing positions -- driver and navigator -- as submitted to JCNA. Any ties will be broken by the JCNA. No scores will be accepted after 11/30. JCNA will donate Championship trophies to individual rally drivers and navigators with the highest point totals at the end of the season. JCNA has the option of going 2, 3, 4, or more places deep in the finishing order on Championship trophies.
16. LOCAL EVENT TROPHIES: Trophies for local events are the responsibility of the sponsoring club and are distributed at the option of the club. JCNA will make Driver & Navigator trophies available if there is sufficient demand. These will be similar to the Concours trophies.
