2020 Amelia Island - Pre Pandemic Action

Yes, it’s worth going.  The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance is a multi-day extravaganza filled with auctions, multiple classic car shows at a location in North Florida that lends itself to few days of R&R.  The Amelia  experience begins with making sure you have lodging for your relevant days.  As the show gets closer, the vacancy rate goes down and the prices go up.  Book early.  Even if you stay in Jacksonville near the airport, it’s still a great visit.

Arriving Thursday afternoon after a 5-hour drive from Lake Worth, our first stop was Bonham’s, where the auction had started around 11 a.m.  This year, an eclectic collection of rare and interesting vehicles was there for some lucky bidders.  We’ve noticed over the last few years, that the threshold for “no reserve” cars has increased.  It appears that $250,000 is the magic number where an owner can request their car to have an established reserve.   More on the Bonham’s, RM Sotheby’s and Gooding & Company auctions in the next issue!
