40th Anniversary of the E-Type
|
Special Guest - Sir Stirling Moss
The E-type is not only the most recognised of all Jaguars but the second most recognised car of all time. Therefore it is fitting we of the Jaguar Enthusiast Club celebrate its 40th Birthday in a big way and allow the public to enjoy the spectacle.
We are going for 1000 E-types
Continuing the successful partnership with the Aston Martin Owners Club we are providing a full two-day spectacular with full racing and infield activities. We are delighted on this occasion to work closely with the International E-type Register of the JDC and Kelsey Publishing to provide a full week of E-type and all Jaguar entertainment.
The week commences on Sunday 3rd June with the E-type Registers popular E-type Day at the famous Prescott Hill, Gotherington near Cheltenham. During the week Kelsey Publishing are organising an E-type Tour of England culminating at Donington.
On the Saturday night we have a Gala Dinner at the prestigious Belfry Hotel near Wishaw, just 30 minutes from Donington.
All these events are open to members of all Jaguar Clubs.
The racing at Donington will be the only chance to see the amazing Group C cars in action in this country this year. This series started last year and already attracts large grids. These cars competed at Le Mans during the eighties and early nineties and provide noisy and spectacular action. Jaguars are strongly represented with the XJR14 in the hands of veteran racer Wyn Percy and a brace of XJ220's with an XJR6 thrown in for good measure. We even have an XJR15 regularly competing. The competition is hot with the ever present Porsches giving everyone a run for their money.
Group C cars will practice and race on both days. Whilst these must be the highlight, both days programmes are competitive and varied. On Saturday there are 7 races include our own XJS/6 pot/Replica challenges plus Healeys, Lotus and AC's celebrating 100 years of the Marque
Sunday sees the Anglo - American and Intermarque races alongside the Aston Martin and Ferrari Championships. Jaguar interest is high with a unique half hour E-type race, incorporating a change of drivers. We are expecting a number of well known drivers, so far Jackie Oliver has expressed an interest in participating alongside Gerry Marshall and Wyn Percy. There will also be a round of our XK Challenge. In total Jaguars feature in 8 races over the weekend.
During the lunch periods there will be an opportunity to have 3 laps of the track in your own car.
Infield Activity - incorporating JEC Midlands Day
If the racing isn't enough for you then we also offer a full static rally, provided by the JEC Midlands Regions and the International E-type Register.
There is an under cover trade village plus outside autojumble stands and the popular JEC Midlands areas bring and buy parts stalls.
If you run a Jaguar or Aston based company and wish to display at Donington please contact Andrew Greenwood.
The well known Jaguar memorabilia expert, Ian Cooling, will provide a memorabilia valuation service on the Saturday and we intend to hold a memorabilia auction on the Sunday morning.
There will be a Clubs marquee, featuring the JEC, Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and the Aston Martin Owners Club. The International E-type Register will also have their own stand.
JEC Direct will be there with commemorative Regalia.
Do not forget that the famous and unique Donington collection of single seat racing cars will be open on both days.
Cars
All Jaguars and Astons are welcome, E-types will have their own special parking area.
Displays will include historic E-types such as 9600 HP and 77RW. A full range of concours E-types will be on display. Special E's like George Best's fixedhead Coupe and many more.
Local Jaguar Main Agent Sturgess of Leicester will provide a display of new models. There will be a car sales arena and JEC Pride & Joy Concours.
We are still working on the event and will keep you informed of further attractions.
We are delighted that Sir Stirling Moss has kindly agreed to join us on Sunday and meet our members and sign autographs, our thanks to Peter James of our insurers Footman James for this wonderful opportunity.
It is particularly apt that Sir Stirling is at such a Jaguar Day as it is also the 50th Anniversary of the C Type and in 1951 Sir Stirling drove the C to victory in the Dundrod TT and was one of the team at Le Mans that year, which saw the first Jaguar victory at this most famous race.
If you are in a Jaguar it is vital that you pre-book, only pre-booked cars will gain entry to the infield
This will be the biggest Jaguar event this year so apply for a pre-booking form from Brian Irwin or Graham Searle or download from our web site: www.jec.org.uk
Booking forms available from beginning of February.
We would like to welcome as many overseas visitors as possible and you are invited to join the E-type tour or the dinner as well.
